Common questions
What is a CTO coach?
Someone who ran engineering at scale and then spent years coaching the founders and CTOs who came after. One Titan coach is the coach to the CTOs of Plaid, Asana, Kong and Discord; another took a hardware startup from zero to $100M ARR as founder and CTO. They have done the job, not studied it.
How does Titan select CTO coaches?
Out of more than 1,600 coaches interviewed, fewer than 3% made it into the network of 48. A CTO coach in that network has either run engineering through the 20 to 200 stretch more than once, taken a company public or through a sale, or coached a roster of CTOs at companies you know.
What do CTOs work on with a coach?
Whether to keep running engineering or hire above yourself. A co-founder relationship with the CEO that has stopped working. A senior hire who is not performing. Being the bottleneck on every technical decision. Titan has coached CTOs at Wispr Flow, Unify, Alex AI, OpusClip and Comun on exactly these.
Does my coach have to be technical?
Only if your problems are technical. Most CTOs who come to Titan are not stuck on architecture. They are stuck on hiring above themselves, on a co-founder who happens to be the CEO, or on leading people who used to be peers. For those, a coach who ran engineering at scale helps because they have sat in the seat, and a coach with twenty years of coaching founders helps because they have seen it a hundred times. We usually have you meet one of each in the trial sessions.
Can my CEO co-founder and I get coached together?
Yes. When the CEO and CTO relationship is the problem, the two of you share a coach and sessions run as a pair, with one-on-one sessions when one of you needs them. When your problems differ, you each get your own coach. The discovery call sorts out which, and the two of you do not have to decide the same way.
